i just think i have to leave a comment here... I think its both good and bad with the authenticator... its good for so many reasons as you wont get your account hacked...
but i see some problems with the authenticator aswell... (and ofc its because you didnt have an authenticator this happens) ..
I said yesturday that my mates account was hacked and contacted him IRL and so on and yes it wasnt him playing.. What i found wierd was that he said he hadnt any playtime on his account so it would be a stupid hacker , paying just to get what 5-6k gold..
Then another IRL mate started on this server today and we talked and his Real account have allso been hijacked and he have tried to get it back for 1½ month... the problem is now that the hijacker have added an authenticator to the account, so he will propperbly never get that account back... (said by an admin)
Dont know how its even possible to hijack an account... but i think there is a fail in the authenticator system if a 16 y/o uses all his money on playtime for this game, and for good reasons dont have a credit card to buy an authenticator , then he can get his account hijacked and never get it back just because of this system...
But nother the less a good idea with the authenticator , and i will allso get one asap so this at least doesnt happen to me... |

With marty's recent hack, i decided to bump this post with some helpful information.
Here you can find a guide how to get the blizz authenticator on ANY PHONE that supports java programs (which is most of the phones these days, there is a tested list at the bottom of the page)
(Btw the guide says for windows mobile phones, but if you check the list below you can see it's not for windows mobile only)

You costs less then 1 dollar and can be bought using a text message.
This guide has been posted on the official wow boards, thus i assume blizzard doesn't mind at all.

I can help you if you require any, i have been using this for a few months now.
So even if they get your password they still wont get into your account!
On a side note you have to connect to the internet once with your phone,
to sync the authenticator i did this with my wifi or USB cable so didn't cost me anthing.

Ah poor people getting hacked. I know how it feels as it was done to me also. I have found the perfect solution to all your problems though. What you do is this. Don't buy an authenticator. Instead use the money you would have spent and go out instead. You will find two things start happening. Firstly you will be out meeting people. These are real people and not acne ridden teenagers intent on stealing your account. Don't be afraid of the real people as they don't want to steal your pretend gold, they just want to hang out with you and have fun.
After a while you will realise that you have stopped worrying about your pixelated items and pretend gold being stolen from you because you will realise an important fact. It's not real. None of it, and none of it matters in the slightest as you will be having too much fun to give a shit about it.
So don't delay, don't buy an authenticator today. Go and enjoy life instead. It's much more enjoyable and you stand a better chance of getting laid in the process.
